Do you ever look around and think to yourself
“I wonder what it would be like to be a worm.”
No? Just me?
What about “I’m getting older and the crushing existential realization of mortality is hurtling towards my mind like the meteor that killed all the dinosaurs.”
……me neither.
Welcome to our blog about what it would be like to be a worm traveling the world and avoiding existential crises.
I’m the lucky man to call himself Olivia’s husband, Colton.
I’m a software developer, so we’re in a very lucky position in that I can still be self employed while we travel. I type words, stuff happens, and ATM’s throw money at me. I get a paycheck.
Rock climbing was something that helped me get through college, briefly enjoying some competitions. Unfortunately, I hurt my shoulder at some point (something about not stretching) and had to take a long time off. After that, it was hard to get back into it. Jump 5 years forward, my shoulder is (kind of) better but now I have the joys of tendonitis in my hamstring. Turns out tendonitis sucks.
Dealing with physical health is something we’re used to at this point, but that jumps to a whole new scale when you throw in traveling the world. This is one of those “If we don’t do it now, we might not be able to do it later.” sort of things.
Despite the hardships I’m sure we will face (mental health, physical health, missing our cat) I’m so excited to go on this journey, and I’m even more excited to be able to document this trip and have people we know and love follow along.
Liv and I balance each other out really well. When we first met, she was very much a “When I travel, I want to see everything” traveler. I was very much a “I’ll take a beer and a hammock please” traveler. Planning together, we blend those two together really, really well. She gets me up and out of the hammock to see these amazing places, and I remind her that some days we need to rest, recover, and enjoy a drink in a hammock looking at the sunset.
When things go wrong, we take turns panicking. I don’t think there was ever a point in any of our previous travels where we both panicked at the same time. We got in the groove of “Okay, your turn to panic this time.” and most of the time, that worked out pretty well.
A lot of people have asked “Well, what are you excited for?”
Food.
Get ready to see so much food.
Pyramids?
More like a pyramid of gyro meat from a street vendor.
I’ve swapped topics so many times in this post that even I’m getting confused, so I’ll just abruptly end it here.
