Absence Summary

Okay, so I fell behind pretty hard on this blog. I did have some stuff written up that I never posted, so I’ll be working on getting those posted. I’m also trying to make my way through to catch up through all of our countries, but I’ll give you all a short summary.

We’ve been through: UAE, Maldives, Sri Lanka, India, Qatar, Bahrain, Saudi Arabia, Oman, Turkey, Italy, Slovenia, Netherlands, France, UK, Scotland, Wales, Ireland, Northern Ireland, Iceland, Denmark, Sweden, and we’re currently in Poland.

We plan on going through the Czech Republic and Austria before spending a few days in Munich and flying out from there to move onwards towards our Asia portion of the trip. We haven’t fully planned that out yet, so I won’t go into very much detail. It does involve another small stint in Doha now that the weather is less hot, so we can see it in a different climate.

Every country we’ve been to has had its ups and downs, and I do not regret a single one. India hit really, really hard, and I feel bad about it but we did end up having to ditch out of it very quickly. I think we were a little overzealous in how well we could take culture shock, and how well we traveled. India is a beautiful place, but it’s also definitely not an easy one if you’re not prepared. We will go back, but when we do it will be with more preparation and experience under our belts.

For top fives (try to guess if you want first, I don’t know):
Colton: Oman, Doha, Slovenia, Sweden, and Italy (in no specific order)

Liv: Oman, Slovenia, Sri Lanka, Iceland, Italy/Sweden

Anyone that has racist things to say about the middle east can kick bricks.

We’ve gone through a lot of highs, and a lot of lows. Traveling is not easy, it’s not always pretty pictures, relaxing in nice hotels, or vacationing on islands. Sometimes it’s walking over 100 thousand steps in a week (for some people, that’s not a lot, but for us it’s a lot.) or getting sick because you’re not used to the cuisine in an area. It’s eating really, really good food but also trying something new and forcing yourself to not gag and swallow it because it would be rude to spit it out (Looking at you, lamb liver.)

We’ve met a lot of great people, and yeah we’ve definitely met a few not great people, we’ve seen some racism against Americans, or just foreigners in general. We’ve never felt in danger, which is weird to say after swimming with sharks and hanging out of an open train door on a bridge with an 80+ foot drop.
